First, let me explain that this is a completely democratic marriage. It has to be a unanimous decision before moving forward. As a result, we were at a stalemate on what to choose for the backsplash. One of us would come up with an idea, the other would hem and haw, then we would drop it for a few weeks or months.
In the meantime, friends and family came over to see the kitchen. Some didn't even notice the backsplash was just raw backing for the tile.
Here's a picture of the backing before the backsplash was installed. Max put down protective paper so that the granite would not be scratched.
We finally made our decision. We came across a picture that gave us inspiration that we both agreed on.
The tile would be a neutral background for some fantastic jeweled toned smaller tile.
Then we toyed around with the design. Here's one of the preliminary designs we started with.
We didn't go with this because I wanted more simplicity. Who knows, maybe I was wearing him down.
Now the work begins. But first, being the perfectionist that Max is, he wants to move the stove out so that he can tile behind it. Don't get me started. So here's how we did it on our own. The sliders were awesome. The guys who installed the stove to begin with used this method so we got our own at Home Depot.
So now it is done and here are pictures of the final result. Then, here are later pictures of the backsplash. (Links will take you to Picasa Albums).
